About National Bank of Pakistan

National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) is the largest commercial bank of Pakistan but at the second number, its market shares are 13% out of total deposits and 12% in term of total loans.National Bank of Pakistan NBP is a government-authority commercial bank which is a substitute of State Bank of Pakistan. It is headquartered is located in Karachi, the biggest city of Pakistan. In September 2020, it has 1,511 branches working across Pakistan with assets of approximately USD 20.2 billion.

The foundation of NBP is kept in November 1949, under the National Bank Ordinance 1949, by the issued capital of Rs. 15 million. 25% of its issued share by government and remainder by the general public. In 1947, all banks including NBP became national banks of Pakistan. By the decision of Government of Pakistan this bank is intermixed with limited banks. In 2001,the government of Pakistan at that time control this bank and fully become the owner of this bank. In 2002, NBP was listed in Karachi stock exchange and government sold a further 10% stake in the bank.
